The Honorable Chief Minister, Government of Madhya Pradesh on January 28, 2023 in entire Madhya Pradesh Announced the implementation of "Mukhya Mantri Ladli Behna Yojana". This will be an important step in the direction of women's health and nutrition and economic self-reliance.

The implementation of the scheme will not only reflect the improvement in the health and nutritional status of women and children dependent on them, but women will be financially more independent than before to spend according to their priority. Women will not only develop self-employment/livelihood resources using locally available resources with the financial assistance received, but will also be able to play an effective role in their decision-making at the family level.

Brief Background

Ladli Behna Yojana is a welfare scheme launched by the Madhya Pradesh government, aimed at empowering women, particularly from low-income and underprivileged families. The initiative primarily focuses on improving the financial condition of women by providing them with direct financial assistance. Under this scheme, eligible women receive a monthly amount (around ₹1,000) directly into their bank accounts.

The broader goals of the scheme include enhancing the economic independence of women, improving their status within households, and encouraging their participation in social and economic activities. Ladli Behna is part of a larger series of welfare programs aimed at improving gender equity and supporting marginalized groups in the state.

·       Financial Empowerment of Women: Provide direct financial support to women, especially from economically weaker sections, by offering a monthly stipend (approximately ₹1,000) to improve their financial independence.

·       Enhance Social Status: Improve the status of women within their families and communities by giving them more control over their own finances.

·       Support Marginalized Women: Focus on the welfare of women from low-income households, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes.

·       Promote Economic Participation: Encourage women's involvement in economic activities by offering financial assistance that can help them pursue opportunities for work, entrepreneurship, or education.

·       Reduce Gender Inequality: Contribute to the state's efforts to reduce gender-based disparities by giving women more resources and improving their access to financial support.

·       Boost Household Well-being: Support the overall development of families by enhancing women's roles as key decision-makers and contributors to household finances.
