The need of agriculture production is very high in our country to ensure food security. On top of that the scarcity of farm labourers is increasing in all places and it is alarming in Kerala. There are many occasions that produces were become unusable due to delay in harvest due to the lack of farm labourers. We need to adopt best technologies and strategies in the field of agriculture to increase farm production and make farming profitable. The State of Kerala is looking at mechanization as the major tool for improving productivity and production in agriculture sector. But the mechanization activities has been slow to pick up due to constraints faced in the form of small farm holdings and inability of individual farmers in making huge investment on machinery in the State. Custom Hiring Centres maintain a fleet of agricultural machineries and provide the machines to the farmers at a nominal rent basis. The centres are also having the facilities for the proper upkeep and maintenance of the machine. Government of Kerala is also providing subsidy to farmers for setting up Farm Machinery bank as Custom Hiring Centres.
