Project Details
Brief Background
The Government of Karnataka, having realized that the geospatial has a potential to become the backbone of government decision making, launched a flagship program called Karnataka GIS. The K-GIS is conceptualized as geospatial technology platform to ensure availability of updated “GIS ready data” of specified standards for use by GoK departments, citizens, researchers and enterprisesObjective
a. To provide a spatial platform to create, update and maintenance of GIS data of all government departments of Karnataka.
b. To provide efficient means of distributing spatial data across department and eradicating the duplication of work.
c. To improve the decision making and ease of business through spatial analysis and discussion support system.
Benefits
Government officials from the Department of Karnataka, NGOs, the research community, and citizens will have access to state wide maps, images, and geospatial information through this portal. In total, over 20 government departments, encompassing 11,443+ users, and facilitating 3,87,206 + transactions for citizens, have been the primary beneficiaries.
Implementation Methodology
· Providing platform to create GIS data: both in web and mobile environment
· Updating the GIS data through asset registry mobile application and providing department wise status monitoring tools
· Standardizing the data both in terms of positional accuracy and normalization
· Publishing the data as map service to make it neutral and accessed by all the client applications
