Brief Background
Public Distribution System is a large operational retail network in Tamil Nadu catering to its entire citizens with about 25534 full time and 10294 part time distribution points (Fair Price Shops) throughout the State. The prime function of the department is to optimally distribute food grains and other Essential Commodities to the intended beneficiary at a subsidized price under Universal Public Distribution (UPDS). Co-operation Food and Consumer Protection Department Government of Tamil Nadu lays down policy for Public Distribution System in Tamil Nadu and is under the charge of Hon ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and headed by a Secretary Co-operation Food and Consumer Protection to Government.Objective
The main objective of the is to maintain the existing application and to do enhancements along with the supply of required Point Of Sale Devices with Finger Print Scanner and IRIS Scanners. It would also require the maintenance of the PDS application with enhancements and provision for electronic weighing scale integration and printer integrated or externalBenefits
