1. Establishment: - GPCB was established in 1974 under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and later strengthened under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981.
2. Objective: - The primary goal of GPCB is to safeguard the environment by controlling pollution and ensuring the sustainable development of Gujarat.
3. Regulatory Body: - GPCB serves as the regulatory authority for implementing environmental laws and monitoring pollution levels across various sectors in Gujarat.
4. **Environmental Compliance**: - The board enforces environmental standards issues consents for industrial operations and ensures compliance with air water and hazardous waste management regulations.
5. **Monitoring and Control**: - It is responsible for monitoring pollution levels conducting inspections and taking corrective actions when pollution exceeds permissible limits.
